Giving & Receiving Feedback in the Workplace
A half-day workshop on giving and receiving feedback at work
Overview
A half-day course on workplace feedback: why it matters, the main types, how to give positive and constructive feedback, and how to seek and receive it. The pack contains scripted trainer notes, 34 editable slides, a participant workbook and practice activities, so a trainer can prepare and deliver the session in a classroom or online without writing material from scratch.
Format. Half day (about three and a half hours including a coffee break). Designed for classroom delivery and adaptable to live online sessions.
Who it is for. Employees at any level, from people new to the subject to those refreshing existing feedback skills.
What delegates take away
- Identify why feedback is important and distinguish the main types of feedback
- Deliver positive and constructive feedback using structured, step-by-step techniques
- Apply best practices for seeking and receiving feedback
- Build a personal action plan for developing feedback skills
Course outline
Defines effective feedback and works through the barriers to giving it and its benefits in the workplace, opening with a group activity.
Classifies feedback four ways: by level of formality, by who delivers it, by quality and aim, and by focus on outcome or process.
Covers effective versus ineffective feedback, ten principles, communication techniques, and structured steps for giving positive and constructive feedback, each with a practice activity.
Guides participants on what to do when receiving feedback, how to seek it out, and uses the Johari Window to frame self-awareness.
Each participant starts a personal action plan for practising and improving their feedback skills after the session.
