Collaboration Skills at Work

One-day course materials for teaching collaboration skills at work

One day 44 slides 3 handouts Editable PowerPoint and Word Instant download

Overview

This one-day course covers what collaborative working involves, the soft skills behind it — listening, emotional intelligence, communication, time management — and how to build a collaborative environment in the office or remotely. The pack gives a trainer a slide-by-slide script, group activities, a participant workbook and handouts; everything is editable, so sections such as the leadership module can be kept or cut to fit the audience.

Format. One day. Designed for classroom delivery and adaptable to live online sessions.

Who it is for. Open level for anyone who wants to improve how they collaborate at work; one module is aimed at leaders, HR and line managers and can be removed for general audiences.

What delegates take away

  • Take practical steps to develop a collaborative environment across a team or organization.
  • Adapt collaboration practices for virtual and remote working.
  • Build a personal collaboration skills action plan to follow after the session.

Course outline

Defines collaboration, distinguishes it from cooperation, and examines what makes a team, team diversity, types of collaboration and the benefits of collaborative working.

Works through emotional intelligence and the Johari Window, listening levels with a practice exercise, the introvert-extrovert gap and the time management matrix, ending with the Space Station Exploration Challenge team activity.

Aimed at leaders, HR and line managers, this section covers the layers of organizational collaboration and the characteristics of collaborative leadership, and can be removed for other audiences.

Addresses the extra challenges of remote collaboration, virtual collaboration tools, and ten good virtual communication practices.

Participants build a six-step personal skills development action plan to pursue after the session, followed by a recap of the objectives.
