Course outline

Introductions, session overview and the three learning objectives.

A group exercise on why geese fly in V formation opens the topic and draws out three lessons about shared direction, rotating leadership and encouragement.

Pairs draft their own definition of goal alignment, then the group works through four reasons it matters to a company and its people.

Participants record their three most important business goals, then examine each of the five SMART criteria with worked examples.

A 25-minute group exercise using the handout checklist to convert a generic business goal into a SMART one.

How goals flow from organizational strategy to departments and individuals, practised through two group exercises.
