Overview

A scenario-based, self-paced e-learning course on mentoring at work. Learners step into a first meeting with a new mentee who has no clear ask, choose whether to let it run as a friendly catch-up or agree up front what the relationship is for, and see how that opening shapes every meeting after it — then learn how to set the agreement, run the mentoring through its phases to a clean ending, and handle the challenges that come up along the way. Delivered as a SCORM 1.2 package for your LMS, with completion tracking.

Format. Self-paced, scenario-based e-learning. SCORM 1.2 — upload it to your LMS and completion tracks automatically.

Runtime. About 24 minutes of learner time, in 4 sessions the package spaces 2, 5 and 30 days apart. Measured from the narration in the package at the speed it plays, plus the time to read and answer what is on screen. It assumes you listen rather than reading ahead; times vary with the path you take and how fast you read.

Who it is for. Any organisation that wants to run this as self-paced learning; suitable for employees at any level.

Course outline

Learning objectives, and an opening exercise on asking questions and listening carefully.

Defines mentoring, separates it from coaching and related concepts, and covers mentor and mentee responsibilities, types of mentoring, and the benefits of mentorship.

Maps the mentor's skillset, then works through strategies for effective conversations, open-ended questioning, listening practice, and ten principles for giving feedback.

Covers setting SMART goals with a mentee and practical ways to build rapport.

Breaks the mentorship into phases, from preparing the first meeting and drafting a mentoring agreement through middle meetings to closing the relationship, with six challenging scenarios and possible solutions.

Participants assess their current mentoring strengths and gaps, set a personal action plan, and recap the learning objectives.
