Adaptability Skills
A ready-to-deliver half-day course on adapting to change at work.
Overview
A half-day workshop on adapting to change at work and in life. Participants define adaptability, examine barriers such as fear and apathy, work through the four areas of adaptable behaviour, and apply a three-step process before writing a SMART action plan. The pack gives a trainer a scripted session with timed activities, ready to run in person or online, and every file is editable and rebrandable.
Format. Half day (about 3.5 hours including breaks). Designed for classroom delivery and adaptable to live online sessions.
Who it is for. Open level: suitable for people who have never come across the concept of adaptability as well as those who know a little and want to develop the skill further, at work or in their personal life.

Course outline
Introductions, learning objectives and a one-word storytelling game that has participants adapting on the spot.
Pairs draft their own definitions before the group settles on a working definition and separates adaptability from change management, flexibility, problem-solving and resilience.
Small groups brainstorm the benefits, from staying relevant and recovering from setbacks to stronger relationships and career opportunities.
Groups list why people struggle to adapt, then work through five common barriers — feeling forced, fear, hurdles, inability and apathy — using workplace scenarios.
How adaptable people operate across the cognitive, emotional, social and behavioural domains, and how to adapt while staying true to core values.
Participants reflect on a change they handled in the past, then apply self-awareness, change of perspective, and strategising and acting to scenario handouts.
Each participant completes a skills checklist and drafts three SMART goals using the action plan handout.
A recap of the objectives with questions that point participants toward applying the material after the session.
